Varietal Breakdown:
74110
74110 is a locally selected subvariety of Ethiopian Heirloom, developed in the 1970s at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) for its resistance to coffee berry disease. The prefix ‘74’ indicates that the selection and cataloguing occurred in 1974. This varietal is known for its compact tree structure, small leaves, and cherries, making it efficient for smallholder farming while maintaining high-quality cup potential.
74112
74112 is another varietal selected from the Metu Bishari forests in the Illubabor Zone in western Ethiopia. It was developed by JARC in 1974 for its disease resistance and high yield. Like 74110, it produces small, dense cherries that contribute to complex acidity and bright fruit characteristics in the cup.
The Story Behind Ethiopia Sadi G2
This coffee is part of a long-term quality improvement project between Falcon Coffees and Mustefa Abakeno, a renowned smallholder farmer and washing station owner in Ethiopia’s Djimma zone. The initiative focuses on elevating coffee quality, improving post-harvest processing, and ensuring long-term sustainability for local farmers.
What Makes This Coffee Special?
- Farm-Level Quality Control – Expert agronomists work with Mustefa to enhance drying bed management, optimise storage conditions, and improve cherry selection for a more refined cup.
- Sustainability & Community Impact – The outgrower group consists of 36 partner farmers across 5 locations: Bedeyi, Echimo, Jarso, Kebira, and Sedi, fostering economic stability in the region.
- Exceptional Post-Harvest Care – A new dedicated warehouse and moisture-controlled storage ensure the coffee retains its vibrant flavours even after export.
Since implementing these improvements, cupping results have consistently improved, showcasing enhanced clarity, structure, and longevity in flavour. By supporting this coffee, you’re directly contributing to the growth of Ethiopian specialty coffee and the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
